Yes, WordBase is completely free and open source. Core features (word picking, SRS review, AI enhancement) are all free. AI features require you to configure your own API Key (OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini, etc.), fees are charged by the corresponding platform.
Data is stored in the Supabase cloud (based on PostgreSQL), protected by Row-Level Security (RLS) policies ensuring each user can only access their own data. AI API Keys are encrypted with AES-256-GCM and cannot be leaked. You can export or delete all your data at any time.
WordPicker browser extension supports Chrome, Edge, Safari and other Chromium or WebKit based browsers. After installation, hold Ctrl and hover any word on an English page to look up and save it.
Add your AI Provider configuration (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint) in settings and enter your API Key. Multiple providers can be configured and switched. Basic word picking and SRS review work without AI configuration.
The Web app runs in any browser. Desktop supports macOS and Windows. Mobile supports iOS and Android. All platforms share the same data via real-time cloud sync.
